Cutaneous chronic expanding hematoma on the elbow mimicking a malignant tumor: report of a case and review of the literature

Chronic extended hematoma (CEH) is a rare condition characterized by slow mass growth over the course of a month after trauma or surgery. Clinically, it is important to distinguish CEH from malignancy, and characteristic findings on CT and MRI images have been reported. In this study, we explored the association of CEH with anemia, anticoagulant administration, and history of trauma/surgery on PubMed and conclude that a history of trauma or surgery can provide a diagnostic clue.
