Abstract

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disorder and its biological behavior derives from the exposure to estrogen. The biological effects of estrogen are mainly mediated through estrogen receptor.Activator protein 1 is an important nuclear transcription regulator, involved in cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. This paper reviewed the subtypes of estrogen receptors, the structure, function of activator protein 1 and their expression in orthotopic and ectopic endometria,in aiming to study their role in the onset and progress of endometriosis.
