Abstract

There continues to be a wide range of definitions and conceptualisations on the practice and experience of community resilience. However, there also continues to be a need to examine this area due to the ever increasing need for communities to respond to extreme events such as climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic, and economic shocks. In this article, we present the findings from in-depth semi-structured interviews with participants from community groups, academia, stakeholders and policymakers about how community resilience is triggered, developed, ultimately maintained. From these interviews, four main themes emerged: the role of organisations, informal and formal development, triggers to community resilience and, can a community resilience movement be built. The overall study has combined qualitative data from workshops and here, interviews, to contribute to the evidence base on how community resilience is developed and maintained.
