Abstract
Objectives: First, the study is to determine the digital divide index between the eastern and western areas of Malaysia. The second objective of this study is to evaluate the consciousness of East Malaysian respondents during internet outages and to identify a solution for addressing the digital divide between East and peninsular Malaysia. Methods: Students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) were asked to complete a questionnaire and provide information on their normal WhatsApp internet connection. Results: The digital divide index places east and peninsular Malaysia in the medium to higher group. The digital gap index demonstrates that east and peninsular Malaysia continue to experience disparities in internet accessibility and usage rates. Conclusions: In east Malaysia, adoption of the e-concept and e-knowledge is weak, as is its accessibility. Peninsular Malaysia is well developed till the issue of EQ and emotions when using the internet is expanded, whereas there are still parts in eastern Malaysia without WIFI connectivity. Young Malaysians serve the new ideology in both the physical and digital domains, according to the findings. Those who originated from less developed phases are conscientious, patient, realistic, and eager to progress. This gives the government ample time to construct the digital infrastructure required to sustain a large user base.
