Abstract
metriosis”.1 There\twere\tover\t900\tdelegates\tand\tspeakers including clinicians,\t scientists,\t epidemiologists\tand\tpara-medics from\t all\t over\t the\t world\t participating\t in\t this congress. The\t 3-day\t scientific\t programs\t were\t divided into two\t major\t sections\t which\t were\t run\t in\t parallel throughout the\t meeting\t period. Its\t activities\t included key note\t lectures,\t interactive\t case\t discussion\t sessions, live demonstration,\t oral\tand\tvideo\tcommunications,\t and poster presentations. Endometriosis is\t considered\t a\t disease\t of\t the\t peri-toneum. It\t is\t defined\t as\t the\t presence\t of\t endometrial tissue,\t i.e.\t endometrial\t gland\t and\t stroma,\t outside\t the uterine cavity. The\tmost\t common\t presentation\t is\t pain and infertility. The\t pain\twhich\t includes\t dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia,\t and\tchronic\tpelvic\tpain,\t causes\ta\tdetrimen-tal effect\t on\t the\t quality\t of\t life\t and\t has\t a\t negative impact on\t reproductive\t functions\t and\t psychosocial productivities of\tthe\twomen\tsuffering\tfrom\tthis\tdisease. Any conservative\tmeasure\t results\t in\t a\t high\t recurrent rate. Endometriosis was\tfirstly\tdescribed\tby\tvon\tRokitan-sky in\t 1860. Although\t being\t known\t for\tmore\t than\t a century,\t endometriosis\tis\tstill\tan\tenigma\tdisease. Deba-table issues\tare\tpresent\t in\tevery\taspect\tof\tendometrio-sis. The pathogenesis\t of\t endometriosis\t is\t complex\t and inconclusive. Sampson’s\t theory\tof\t retrograde\tmenstrua-tion has\t long\t been\t acknowledged;\t although\t the\t theory cannot indubitably\t explain\t the\t occurrence\t of\t endo-metriosis. Currently,\t a\tconsiderable\tnumber\tof\tadvance molecular studies\t have\t been\t advocated\t wishing\t for better understanding,\t improving\tdiagnosis\tand\ttreatment, and eventually\trestoring\tquality\tof\tlife\tand\tpsychosocial productivities of\tthe\tpatients. The\tmajority\tof\tresearches are confined\tto\tthe\tfield\tof\tmolecular\tgenetic,\t immuno-logy and\t inflammatory\t response,\t and\t angiogenesis. Hence,\t none\tof\t the\tcandidate\tgenes,\t proteins,\t or\t cyto-kines seems\t to\t be\t clinically\t applicable\t in\t this\t near future. In\t the\t present\t congress,\t more\t researches\t were focused on\tthe\tpathophysiology\tof\tpain\t in\tendometrio-
