Abstract

Methods: : From a sample of 876 colonoscopies performed by Prof. Giovanni Tomasello during 2019-2022, a retrospective study was performed selecting a group of 96 patients (48 males, 48 females) with a mean age of 58 years (34-82 years) with asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic diverticular disease of class D.I.C.A. 1 or D.I.C.A. 2. Patients were divided into two groups according to the corresponding D.I.C.A. class and treated in different modalities: with probiotic mixture (one or two daily administrations), with 5-ASA or with 5-ASA + probiotic mixture. Subsequently, remission of symptoms and the eventual occurrence of complications were assessed at time T0 (start of treatment), T1 (after 20 days) and T2 (after 40 days).
