Abstract

This literature review explores the interconnected dynamics of overthinking and insecurity in romantic relationships, examining their cognitive, emotional, and relational impacts. Overthinking, characterized by repetitive rumination, and insecurity, marked by self-doubt and fear of rejection, often create a cyclical feedback loop that undermines trust, communication, and emotional safety. Drawing on psychological research, this review highlights how these patterns manifest, their effects on relationship satisfaction, and potential interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness, and communication training. The review also identifies limitations in current research, such as reliance on WEIRD populations, and suggests future directions. The paper underscores the importance of addressing these silent battles to foster healthier, more resilient romantic partnerships.
