Abstract

Abstract The Blue-winged Teal ( Spatula discors ) is a species that reproduces in North America and migrates to South America during the boreal winter. Although instances of hybridization with other duck species have been observed in the wild, this has never occurred with an endemic species from the southern cone. We detected a male individual of this species that remained at its wintering site for over a year and recorded hybridization with a South American species: the Red Shoveler ( Spatula platalea ).
