Endometriosis presenting as an acute groin swelling: a case report
This case report describes endometriosis as an unusual cause of acute groin swelling, leading to urgent surgical exploration and subsequent histological confirmation.

This paper is a single case report of a 27-year-old nulliparous woman who presented with an acutely painful right groin swelling that was clinically diagnosed as either an incarcerated femoral hernia or an enlarged lymph node. She underwent same-day surgical exploration, which found a hard inflammatory mass at the insertion of the round ligament into the pubic tubercle; excision was performed and the specimen underwent histology and immunohistochemistry. Histology showed fibroadipose tissue with endometrial-type glandular epithelium and stroma positive for anti-CD10, with associated hemorrhage and necrotic changes, consistent with endometriosis; she recovered without complications and had no further symptoms on follow-up. The paper’s main limitation is that it is confined to a single patient and does not provide broader evidence or systematic diagnostic comparisons. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it describes endometriosis presenting as an acute painful groin mass arising from the round ligament/in the inguinal region.
