Abstract
The present investigation was planned to determine the efficacy of intrauterine lidocaine reducing pain when taking endometrial biopsy with Novak cannula in patients attending in the Central Hospital University ¨Dr. Antonio Maria Pineda¨, department of Gynecology, from January to April 2011. For this, a controlled clinical trial was performed, single blind, whose sample consisted of 40 patients randomly divided into two groups: Group A: 20 patients receiving intrauterine lidocaine infusion and Group B: 20 ??patients who received saline. As result no statistically significant differences were found when comparing age and indications for endometrial biopsy. However, the average age was 45.55 ± 13.43 years and the most frequent cause endometrial pathologies (52.5%) and fibroids (42.5%). With regard to pain intensity assessed by the Test of Keele, showed that the group of patients who received intrauterine lidocaine infusion had lower pain intensity than the group that received saline, in addition, there were no adverse effects. Concluding, that intrauterine lidocaine infusion, allows good pain control and quick recovery after taking endometrial biopsy.\n\n
