Abstract

Introduction: Research is essential for societal development and medical sciences. Medical schools should train researchers and promote a research culture. This study assessed the attitude of medical students at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS) towards research. Methods: : A cross-sectional descriptive design was used to collect data from 268 randomly selected medical students. A questionnaire adapted from Sobczuk et al. measured their attitude towards research. Data analysis was performed using one-sample and Friedman statistical tests in SPSS 26 software. Results: : The results indicated that the students had a positive attitude towards research, but lacked motivation and participation. They rated logical thinking and scientific contribution as the most important aspects of research attitude. The main barriers to conducting research were knowledge gap and financial problem. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the students are interested in research, but need more support and guidance. The university should offer courses on research methods, increase awareness of research importance and benefits, provide facilities and resources, and enhance attention from officials and professors.
