Endometriosis and TMD Comorbidity: Mechanisms, Screening, and a Translational Biomarker Protocol

This project explores the clinical and biological intersection between Endometriosis and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), two chronic inflammatory conditions that frequently co-occur in women, significantly impacting their quality of life. Despite their high prevalence, the pathophysiological mechanisms linking these comorbidities remain under-researched, leading to diagnostic delays and fragmented clinical management. The study proposes a multidisciplinary framework that combines specialized screening tools with a translational biomarker protocol. A key focus is the implementation of a low-cost "liquid biopsy" approach using menstrual fluid to identify specific inflammatory markers and cellular components associated with systemic pain sensitization. By validating this non-invasive diagnostic method, the project aims to streamline the identification of at-risk patients and provide a scientific basis for personalized, integrated treatment strategies for chronic inflammatory pain in high-demand health systems.
