Artificial Intelligence in ENT Clinical Practice and Education: A UK Perspective

Abstract

Objectives: To provide a comprehensive overview of current and emerging applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in ENT clinical practice and education, with a focus on the UK healthcare setting. Design: Narrative review based on recent peer-reviewed literature and UK-specific healthcare developments. Setting: UK National Health Service (NHS) and ENT educational institutions. Main Outcome Measures: Discussion of clinical integration, diagnostic and therapeutic innovations, educational implications, and barriers to implementation of AI technologies in ENT. Results: : AI applications in ENT include diagnostic image analysis, surgical robotics, hearing aid optimisation, triage automation, and trainee education. Despite promise, challenges remain regarding explainability, training gaps, data biases, and regulatory concerns. Conclusion: AI has significant potential to enhance ENT care and training in the UK. Realising these benefits requires careful integration, clinician education, and appropriate oversight.
