The Retrenchment Program of Aviation Partnership Philippines (A plus) During The Global Health Crisis

Abstract

The COVID-19 Pandemic changed a lot in terms of the normal movement of the world. This event brought major changes in the aviation industry specially in the job security of the employees of Aviation Partnership Philippines (A+). One of these unexpected movement within the airline company is with their policies and guidelines through their Retrenchment Program, that affected most of the employees during the global health crisis as the IATF implemented series of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or lockdown in the whole island of Luzon. This study wanted to highlight the retrenchment program existing in the Aviation Partnership Philippines (A+), that will help the readers to understand what was the outcome of this tough decision that the company implemented by placing some of their employees into retrenchment program with proper compensation and benefits in accordance with the existing rules of the Philippine Labor Code. The study determined the outcome of this business strategic decision to save and maintain the business during the global pandemic. A 4-point Likert survey was used in the study. Three types of 4-point Likert survey was provided namely; policies and guidelines implemented by Aviation Partnership Philippines for retrenchment program offer to it’s employees, effects of the retrenchment program in A+ employees, and the status of Aviation Partnership Philippines after the pandemic. In this study, the rating 4 stands for Highly Accepted (HA), 3 for Accepted (A), 2 for Slightly Accepted, and 1 for Not Accepted (NA). The survey was participated by 40 participants, they were the employees of the Aviation Partnership Philippines who has been affected by the global health crisis. Using mean distribution , the results for both levels of acceptability and effectiveness of on the retrenchment program implemented by the Aviation Partnership Philippines(A+) were both interpreted as Accepted and Effective. The Key Informant Interview (KII’s) were participated by three senior officers of A+ were in the recommendations for the improvement of the retrenchment program of the Aviation Partnership Philippines (A+) were drawn as follows: a) define a clear selection policies, criteria and employees to be placed under the retrenchment program, b) provide a longer notice to the employee, prior in placing them right away under this program, c) provide a clear retrenchment policies and guidelines for having the employees benefits during Labor Code. All of these recommendations were collaboration of the senior officers in lined with the improvement of their current policies and guidelines for the retrenchment program that covers the current situation of brought by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Overall the study shows that the given variables in terms of their demographic profile such as age, sex, position, department and length of service in the company was acceptable because it was concluded that significantly there’s a difference because the participants has different level’s on both acceptability and effectiveness of the retrenchment program implemented by Aviation Partnership Philippines (A+) to it’s employees during the global health crisis.
