Untersuchungen zur klinischen Bedeutung Endometriose-assoziierter Nervenfasern (EM-aNF) in peritonealen Endometrioseläsionen (pEM)
This study analyzed the clinical relevance of endometriosis-associated nerve fibers in peritoneal lesions by correlating their presence with the severity of chronic pelvic pain symptoms in patients.

This prospective study investigated the clinical significance of endometriosis-associated nerve fibers in peritoneal lesions by correlating their presence with pain severity in 27 women. Researchers identified nerve fibers within 1.5 mm of lesions using immunohistochemistry and compared symptomatic patients to those with minimal or no pain, finding a significantly higher prevalence of nerve contact in the painful group. Postoperative follow-up indicated that while many patients experienced pain relief after lesion removal, persistent pain was associated with the continued presence of these nerve fibers. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically examining the role of innervated peritoneal lesions in generating chronic pelvic pain.
