Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) level in poor-responder women and its correlates with lifestyle and socio-demographic characteristics

Abstract
Background: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is an indicator of women ovarian reserve or the number of follicles remaining in a woman's ovaries. Unlike other groups of women, AMH level is poorly understood in poor-responders women. We aimed to investigate AMH level in poor-responder women and how it’s related to reproductive factors, lifestyle and socio-demographic characteristics. Methods A total of 119 poor-responder women were randomly selected from the infertility clinic of Al-Zahra Hospital, Tabriz, in 2022. Lifestyle and reproductive factors were measured using trained interviews and valid instruments. Linear regression analysis was carried out to estimate predictors of AMH level among poor-responder women in the presence of effective factors. Results There was a significant negative correlation between advanced age (year) and AMH level (r= -0.35, P = 0.001). After adjusting for the potential confounders, advanced age (β= -0.162), never/seldom (β= -0.199), and less than 2-items (β= -0.041) vegetable intake per day were significantly decreased AMH levels among poor-responder women (P < 0.05). Furthermore, passive smoking; never/seldom and low physical activity levels decreased AMH levels but no significantly. Conclusion The study found that AMH level was associated with age and lifestyle factors among poor-responder women. Lifestyle promotion can help to improve poor-responder women's ovarian reserve and the likelihood of fertility.
