Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in uterine adenomyosis and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of COX-2 was examined by immunohistochemistry SP method, in ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium of patients with uterine adenomyosis, the results were compared with normal endometrium. Results COX-2 expression in ectopic or eutopic endometrium with adenomyosis was significantly higher than that in normal endometrium. (P 0.05) . No statistically significant difference was found between ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium of adenomyosis(P0.05). And there were no significant differences in COX-2 expression between proliferative phase and secretive phase of endometrium. Conclusion High expression of COX-2 may be involved in the pathogenesis and development of uterine adenomyosis, which may provide potent target for treatment of adenomyosis.
