This study evaluated demographic, habitual, medical/reproductive, and pain-characteristic factors associated with chronic pelvic pain in 2469 women referred to a clinical urology unit in Romania between 2006 and 2010, using survey data. Women were stratified by the presence of chronic pelvic pain and analyzed with univariate methods and generalized cluster analysis (k-means) to classify patients, with results tested for correlation with chronic pelvic pain. The authors found that complications at delivery and physical work increased risk, while marital status and higher education were protective, and that age at presentation and age at menarche were lower in those with chronic pelvic pain; caffeine, alcohol, smoking, pain intensity, menstrual pain association, deep intercourse, and bladder filling/voiding symptoms were higher in the chronic pelvic pain group, with classification correlating significantly (p<0.001).
