Laparoscopic uterine nerve ablation (LUNA) for chronic pelvic pain.
OA: closed
Abstract
Aims: Chronic pelvic pain is not well defined, but can be described as pain low in the abdomen. One of the most common causes of chronic pelvic pain is endometriosis. This is a condition in which womb lining tissue that is usually found only inside the womb (uterus) is also present outside the womb, usually in the pelvic cavity. One possible treatment for chronic pelvic pain is laparoscopic uterine nerve ablation (LUNA). LUNA is a procedure carried out under a general anaesthetic and involves the destruction of a small segment of ligament that carries nerve fibres within the pelvis. Intended audience: Healthcare professionals. Publication history information: Published 24 October 2007. NICE Interventional Procedure Guidance 234. Access: Available to the general public.
