Abstract

Objective:To determine the effect of human interferon(IFN) -α-2b on endometriosis in rats and compare the two treatments.Methods:Thirty-eight rats with endometriosis were divided randomly into three groups which included group A(n=15) ,group B(n=15) ,and control group(n=8) .The rats in group A received 100 000 U of IFN-α-2b by intraperi-toneal(IP) deposit during the laparotomy. The rats in group B were treated with three doses of IFN(100 000 U every 48 hours) by SC injection after the second laparotomy was performed. The control group was not given any treatment.Laparotomy was performed to measure the size of each plant at week 4,6 and 8 after treatment.Using SP immunohistochemical technique,VEGF and MVD in ectopic endometrum of model rats were assessed. Results:At the last laparotomy, the mean size of the plants by animal were significantly smaller in the treatment groups than that in control group(P 0.05) .The expression of VEGF and MVD in the ectopic endometrum of model rats were decreased in treatment groups than that in control group(P 0.05) .There was no difference between two treatment groups in the mean volume,VEGF and MVD at the last laparotomy af-ter the treatment of IFN(P 0.05) .Conclusion:Two short regimens of human IFN-α-2b reduce the size of experimental en-dometriosis in rats, perhaps by inhibiting the angiogenesis of ectopic endometrium.
