Abstract
Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor— KDR(kinase insertion domain-containing receptor) in ectopic and eutopic endometria of patients with endometriosis and normal endometrium. Methods Thirty-two specimens of ovarian endometrioma and 30 specimens of matched eutopic endometrium were biopsied from 44 patients with endometriosis;another 40 speciments of endometrium were biopsied from women without endometriosis.Reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry(streptavidin-biotin complex,SABC) analysis were utilized to examine KDR mRNA and protein expression and their levels in the above-mentioned endometria. Results The KDR levels in ectopic and eutopic endometrium of patients with endomefriosis were significantly higher than that in normal controls(P0.05).The expression of KDR in the proliferative phase endometrium was significantly higher than that in the secretory phase endometrium(P0.05).Conclusions The VEGF receptor-KDR is highly expressed in both the ectopic and eutopic endometria of women with endometriosis, indicating that VEGF receptor may be involved in endometriotic angiogenesis, and promotes remote metastasis, implantation and infiltration.Higher expression of KDR in proliferative phase eutopic endometrium than that in secretory phase endometrium may be related to bormone function.
