Abstract

Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease that affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age and is the main cause of Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP). Evidence from Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) has identified genetic loci showing a significant correlation between endometriosis and other chronic pain–related conditions, suggesting a shared genetic basis for phenomena such as allodynia and hyperalgesia [1]. However, these data are predominantly centered on populations of European and Asian ancestry. The Mexican population, characterized by a mestizo heritage that includes an average of 45–55% Amerindian ancestry [7], presents unique genomic variants that may influence pain management and responses to pharmacological treatments. This systematic review aims to highlight the discrepancy between global knowledge on pain genetics and the specific characteristics of the Mexican population, emphasizing the urgent need to conduct pharmacogenomic (PGx) research to improve multimodal CPP treatment through personalized approaches.
