Abstract

The mammary ridges appear as an ectodermal thickening along the ventrolateral surface of the embryo, extending from the axilla to the upper medial surface of the thigh. The mammary buds appear in these ridges, and only those in the pectoral region persist. Subsequently, the caudal two-thirds of the ridges disappears.
