Abstract

This diploma thesis focuses on the biopsychosocial needs of female patients after surgical treatment of endometriosis involving a temporary colostomy, and on their awareness of postoperative lifestyle recommendations. Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to determine how surgical treatment of endometriosis with a temporary colostomy affects the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients, and how well these women are informed about lifestyle measures. Furthermore, the study seeks to evaluate how the level of information and support provided by healthcare professionals influences patients' ability to adapt to changes associated with the treatment. Methods and Research Sample: To achieve the objectives, a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods was used. The quantitative part was conducted using a non-standardized questionnaire. The data were evaluated using Spearman's correlation coefficient. The research sample included a total of 105 female respondents who had undergone surgical treatment of endometriosis followed by a temporary colostomy. The qualitative part was conducted through semi-structured interviews, which were subsequently analyzed using open coding and systematically categorized. The qualitative sample consisted of six patients who had also undergone the same type of surgical treatment. The respondents were purposefully selected the group "Endometrióza CZ." They came from various regions of the Czech Republic. The research was carried out between February and May 2025. Results: The research showed that this treatment significantly affects all aspects of women's biopsychosocial functioning. Many respondents described a disturbed body image, anxiety, fear of intimacy, and a negative impact on both social and working life. It was also confirmed that the level of awareness regarding lifestyle measures was often insufficient, which negatively affected the adaptation process. A relationship was found between limitations in daily activities and quality of life, and also between subjective awareness of endometriosis and the psychological condition after treatment. Recommendations for Practice: To strengthen systematic patient education, to expand the role of general and stoma care nurses in the area of support and information, and to include psychological support as a standard part of care for women with deep endometriosis.
