Those in the control group underwent feticide upon admission to the delivery room or no feticide, depending on gestational age. Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was the rate of vaginal delivery within 12 hours of induction. Results: 96 women were enrolled, 22 in the case group and 74 in the control group. Rate of vaginal delivery within 12 hours of induction was comparable between the two groups (86.4% in the case group versus 75.7% in the control group, p = 0.22). Median induction-to-delivery interval was shorter in the case group with no significant difference from the control group (5.12 hours vs. 7.37 hours, p = 0.11). Use of misoprostol was significantly less frequent in the case group than in the control group (72.7% vs. 96%, p = 0.004). Overall maternal morbidity was comparable between the two groups, with one case of uterine rupture reported in each group. In utero maceration rendered fetal autopsy and neuropathological analysis unfeasible in the case group. Conclusions: Early feticide appears associated with a shorter induction-to-delivery interval and a significant reduction in use of misoprostol, with no increase in maternal complications. Early feticide may be proposed when fetal autopsy is not required or desired by the woman. Funding: This research received no specific funding from public, commercial or not-for-profit funding bodies.
