Abstract

Objective To analyse the operative results of different surgical modalities in 160 cases with endometriosis. Methods 160 patients with endometriosis were treated by different modes of operation and recurrence of endometriosis monitored by serum CA 125 test. Results The appearance of postoperative climacteric symptoms were related to modes of operation i.e. radiclal, semi radical and conservative operation. With semi radical operation, the recurrence rate was 19.30%; With conservative operation, the recurrence rate was 25.71%. Continued postoperative drug therapy, its duration and dosage were related to recurrence of endometriosis. Of 29 patients recurrent endometriosis, CA 125 was positive in 21 patients, in (72.41%).Conclusion Operative treatment is effective for endometriosis, especially in moderate and severe cases. The operative modality and postoperative drug therapy have direct influence on prognosis of the disease and serum CA 125 test is one of the monitoring markers for recurrence of endometriosis.
