Abstract

Primary neoplasms of the small intestine are rare, and correct preoperative diagnosis of these tumors is difficult. An intestinal neoplasm appearing as a hemorrhagic cyst may be misdiagnosed as an endometrioma. A case of leiomyoma with giant cyst formation preoperatively misdiagnosed as endometrioma is presented. The histologie examination of the resected tumor predicted a benign course. It is not common for leiomyoma to appear as a giant hemorrhagic cyst, and reports of such cases are rare in the literature. However, a physician should consider gastrointestinal tumor as a differential diagnosis for hemorrhagic cyst even if the diagnosis of endometriosis had been made previously.
