Abstract

We review uses and meanings of reproducibility and replication as well as related terms in the literature across the research landscape. Based on the analysis of the review and due to the prevailing conceptual confusion surrounding the reproducibility and replication terminology, we provide a distinction between practices and epistemic functions of reproducibility and replication that allows to navigate through the conceptually confused territory and identify different types of reproducibility and replication. The practices are further distinguished between practices of enabling and redoing.
