Abstract

Redwine DB, editor. Surgical Management of Endometriosis. 242 pages. London: Martin Dunitz, 2003. ISBN 1-84184-248-6. GBP 75.00 One of the world's experts in endometriosis, David B. Redwine has gathered other authorities in this field, discussing modern diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. In 17 chapters 242 pages, all aspects have been covered. Endometriosis is a confusing, mysterious disease. This book is trying to fill up that void in the literature. All aspects of surgical techniques by using any of a number of energy systems have been discussed. The characteristics of these techniques are explored from anatomy to step-by-step guidelines. Some of the more uncommonly situated places of endometriosis, such as intestinal, rectovaginal, urinary tract and endometriosis in distant sites, have also been covered. This book takes you through all aspects of the modern medical therapy for endometriosis. It provides a guideline to determine whether medical or surgical treatment is needed. In the book, there are more than 200 illustrations, mostly in color, and it explains how to virtually treat any manifestation of endometriosis. A subject index can take you to all interesting subjects. With all these experts gathered to write a book about endometriosis, there will be some overlap and various opinions of treatment modalities. I miss a summary from the author who represents the authority's opinion of the present golden standard of diagnosis and surgical treatment. This book should be included in all medical libraries and departments treating endometriosis.
