Abstract

Objective:To compare the frequency of endometrial polyps in women with endometriosis. Methods:The frequency of endometrial polyps in 308 women with sterility in this hospital during 1998.1 ~ 2005.2 was retrospectively analyzed.94 with endometriosis, including stage Ⅰ27 cases, stage Ⅱ 22 cases, stage Ⅲ 26 cases and stage Ⅳ 19 cases,98 with chronic pelvic inflammatory diseases and 116 with normal pelvic.Endometriosis and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease were detected by laparoscopy or abdominal laparotomy, normal pelvic was comfirmed by laparoscopy, endometrial polyps were confirmed by pathologic examination. Results:Endometrial polyps were found in 20 women(21.3%) with endometriosis and in 4 women(4.1%) with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and in 4 women(3.4%) with normal pelvic. The frequency of endometrial polyps in women with endometriosis was significantly higher than that of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and normal pelvic. Conclusion:If endometriosis is detected in a women undergoing evaluation for infertity, transvaginal ultrasound(TVS) is recommended,if TVS suggests endometrial lesions, hysteroscopic examination is strongly recommended.Conversely,if TVS or hysteroscopy does indicate presence of an endometrial polyp, indication of laparoscopic examination should be widened to determine whether endometriosis may be present.
