Abstract

The taxa which communicate and sexually selected through vocalization are to face multiple challenges in the predicted climatic change. On the one hand they cannot avoid selection on larger body size due to increase in temperature while on the other the resulting higher calling frequency (due to decrease in body size) will be attenuated faster in the warmer environment. To adapt to this situation they would have to migrate to cooler areas. Nonetheless, this strategy pose its own risk of losing the body heat faster for the smaller individuals creating an eternal loop of acoustic trade-off. Also, especially in the mountainous regions the, the area available for migration is finite which is expected to worsen the survival of individuals and/or populations. The hypothesis is based on the anuran amphibians as a model, however, wider implications are expected.
