Investigating the effect of positive counseling on the anxiety of pregnant mothers over 35 years old

Background: and objectives Pregnancy is a pleasant time for most women, but sometimes pregnant mothers have worries. Counseling during pregnancy can play an important role in reducing the anxiety of pregnant mothers. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of positive counseling on the anxiety of pregnant mothers over 35 years old. Materials: and methods This study was conducted on pregnant mothers over 35 years old in Zanjan. the study was approved by the Human Experimentation Ethics Committee of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences (IR.ZUMS.REC.1400.110) and was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials under the registry number IRCT20160521027994N7 i n 18/07 /2021. The tools of this study are demographic form, Vandenberg Pregnancy Anxiety Questionnaire and Dass-21. After completing the questionnaire, the eligible people were randomly divided into 2 intervention and control groups. The intervention group received positive counseling during eight virtual sessions of 70-90 minutes, and the control group received only routine care, and at the end, the questionnaires were completed again. Then the data were analyzed with Klomogrof-Smirnov statistical test, independent t, paired t with SPSS software. Results: The mean variable of Vandenberg pregnancy anxiety before the intervention in the intervention group is 63.608±18.717 and in the control group is 55.652±17.933, which does not have a statistically significant difference (P=0.148). After the intervention, this average is 38.608 ± 13.275 in the intervention group and 60.521 ± 17.526 in the control group, which has a statistically significant difference (P=0.000). Conclusion: positive counseling reduces the anxiety of pregnant mothers over 35 years old.
