Abstract

Ectopic pregnancy on the vaginal portio in a 31-year-old woman weari ng and IUD is reported. Endometriosis of the portio had been diagnosed 5 years earlier and the IUD had been in place for 2 years. The patient was examined for heavy bleeding after a 54-day period of amenorrhea. Pregnancy was diagnosed on histological and clinical grounds. In the authors opinion this rare occurrence was due to 2 factors: the presenc e of the IUD which may have accelerated the passage of the ovum through the uterus and the endometriosis present in the area of the portio in which nitation occured.
