Uplifting of anticorrosive coatings performance via TiO2 /ZnO core-shell pigment for oil and gas pipelines protection

Abstract
Cheap and safe ways for transportation are among the forehead crucial requirements to distribute petroleum products and natural gas to the different areas; and the most profitable method is via steel pipelines. Nonetheless these pipelines are subjected to corrosion, and therefore an economically feasible defense system is a must. Accordingly, new core-shell pigment (TiO 2 /ZnO) was prepared and characterized via XRD, XRF, TEM, SEM, and EDX analysis to be encountered in polymeric coating formulations, then subjected to standard corrosion experiments; including immersion test, adhesion, and electrochemical measurements. Impedance spectroscopy was hired for observing the resistance and capacitance of the coatings during 28 days. The obtained results conveyed that the prepared core-shell pigment with its unique structure can strongly enhance the resistivity of the formulated coating to protect the pipeline outer-wall from corrosion. Eventually, these results can develop the knowledge about the combination of high performance and low cost anticorrosive coatings that can be applied in high corrosive media.
