Unusual case of massive oedema of ovary initiallydiagnosed as Ovarian Endometriosis

Massive ovarian oedema is a rare clinical entity described as accumulation of oedema fluid within ovarian stroma, separating normal follicular structures. We had a 25 years old unmarried lady initially referred as a case of endometriosis. Ultrasound examination revealed solid and cystic enlargement of left ovary. Exploratory laparatomy revealed torsion of left ovarian pedicle, oedematous fallopian tube, for which salpingo-ovaritomy was done. Histopathology was consistent with features of massive ovarian oedema. This entity, though rare, should be considered in women of fertile age group with solid enlargement of ovary with negative tumour markers, so that fertility sparing surgery can be done.
