Abstract
Objective To evaluate significance of levels of serum matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3) and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) in diagnosis of endometriosis. Methods A total of 46 patients with endometriosis(observation group) and 40 healthy women(control group) were recruited in this study.Serum levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in the two groups were measured and compared. Results Serum levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in observation group were(139.7 ±71.0) μg / L and(340.8 ± 111.5) μg / L,and(70.5 ± 32.0) μg / L and(188.9 ± 72.8) μg / L in control group respectively. The differences of the two groups were statistically significant(P 0.01).Area under receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves of serum MMP-3 and TIMP-1 were 0.831 and 0.864 respectively(P 0.01).The sensitivity of combined detection of serum MMP-3 and TIMP-1 was 97.4%,and specificity was 96.3%.Serum levels of TIMP-1 showed positive correlation with MMP-3(r = 0.5003,P 0.01).Conclusion MMP-3 and TIMP-1 may be related to the progression of endometriosis, and serum levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 may be helpful in diagnosis and adjuvant approaches of endometriosis.
