Abstract
Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common symptom by that depends a strong impairment of woman’s quality of life. The high incidence of CPP together with the procedures needed to identify the etiology ad to manage the treatment of CPP weight on the expense of public health. Endometriosis is a common cause of CPP wit a high percentage of hospital admission (18-51%). Up to now, endometriosis is not included in the social diseases this could depends on the lack of correct Diagnosis Related Group (DRG)of this disease. We aimed to evaluate the percentage
\nof CPP induced by endometriosis in the hospital admission of CPP performed in the department Gynaecologic and Obstetric University of Cagliari from 2003 to 2007. Endometriosis as diagnosed in a high percentage (42,4%) of hospital admission of CPP. However, there is a difference between the number of endometriosis diagnosed and the case of endometriosis reported in the hospital discharge card (SDO). Endometriosis is a common gynaecological cause of CPP in sardinian population as well as autoimmune disease (diabetes mellitus type I , Sistemic Lupus Eritematosus). These results suggest that endometriosis must to be considered in all case of CPP and that future studies are necessary to know if there is a relationship between the high prevalence of endometriosis and autoimmune disease in female Sardinian population.
