This editorial highlights that hysterectomy is one of the most frequently performed gynecological procedures in Germany and Austria, with the vast majority of cases addressing benign conditions. It references the 2015 joint guideline from the DGGG, OEGGG, and SGGG regarding indications and methods for hysterectomies in benign diseases. The text lists adenomyosis uteri and endometriosis among the most common indications for this surgical intervention alongside uterine fibroids, bleeding disorders, genital prolapse, and precancerous changes. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically listing it as a primary indication for hysterectomy according to major German-speaking clinical guidelines.
