Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression level of serum vascular endothelial growth facter(VEGF)in endometriosis and explore its role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, and the relationship between the VEGF level and dysmenorrheal. Methods The expression level of serum VEGF was measured by enzyme-linked immunosobent assay(ELISA)in 48 patients with endometriosis(22 at stages I and II and 26 at stages III and IV)and 40 women without endometriosis. The relationship between the level and endometriosis as well as between the level and dysmenorrheal was analyzed. Results The expression level of serum VEGF was significantly higher in endometriosis than that in non- endometriosis(controls)(P0.05).The expression level of serum VEGF was significantly higher at stages III and IV than that at stages I and II in endometriosis(P0.05).The expression level of serum VEGF showed no significant correlation with the severity of dysmenorrhea(P0.05).Conclusion The increased expression level of serum VEGF in endometriosis suggests that VEGF may play an important role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. The serum VEGF level has no significant correlation with dysmenorrhea.
