Analyzing Levels of both Leptin and IL-8 in Peritoneal Fluid in Women with Endo-metriosis

Objective:To compare levels of leptin and IL-8 in peritoneal fluid in women with endometriosis,and to explore the two angiogenic cytokines for a possible role in the pathophysiology of endometriosis.Methods:Peritoneal fluid from 46 women with endometriosis and 31women undergoing hysteromyoma ectomy was collected at laparoscopy.Leptin and IL-8 levels were detected using ELISA.The correlation of letin and IL-8 in stage,rFAS,type and presentation of endometriosis was analyzed.Results:Presence of age,weight,height,BMI and gravidity did not show any significant correlation with both leptin and IL-8(r =-0.0900 ~ 0.1400,P 均0.05).Significantly higher leptin and IL-8 were demonstrated in peritoneal fluid in patients with endometriosis comparing with control(P0.01).Levels of leptin were significantly higher in early stage than advanced stage(P0.05),contrary to leptin,IL-8 levels were significantly elevated in those with advanced disease(P 0.05).Levels of leptin correlated negatively with rFAS(r =-0.5615,P0.05),and levels of IL-8 correlated positively with rFAS(r =0.6320,P0.01).Pain scores were positively correlated with levels of IL-8 in women with advanced endometriosis(r = 0.6104,P0.05).Women with peritoneal implants had significantly higher IL-8 levels than those with endometriotic cysts.Conclusions:Leptin and IL-8 levels are raised in peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis,which reflects inflammation and dysregulated immunomodulation.Higher levels of leptin were correlated with early stages,and IL-8 seems to stimulate endometriosis aggravation in a dose-dependent manner.
