Abstract
Metrological traceability is a crucial concept in the field of measurement. It links the measurements to references (e.g. SI unit definitions). This in turn assures comparability of values of the same kind. A series of mis-conceptions are common resulting in incomplete establishment of metrological traceability. A review of the VIM-definition of the term reveals opportunities for conveying am improved understanding and such a safer realization of metrological traceability.
