Prolonged GnRH Agonist and Add-Back Therapy for Symptomatic Endometriosis

Endometriosis patients receiving a 12-month course of GnRH agonist were randomized to receive one of three “add-back” regimens to address associated bone mineral density loss. Symptoms and pelvic examination scores improved for all patients. Mean bone mineral density was at or above baseline in patients receiving add-back therapy as compared to placebo. The authors concluded that patients who are receiving GnRH agonist should receive add-back therapy.
