Abstract
Aim: To characterize the effect of ovariectomy on endometriosis explant using the rat model. WTHZ Methods:WTBZ Endometriosis was induced in mature female rats. They were divided in two groups -- ovariectomies (n=23) and controls (n=24). The rats were killed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of ovariectomy at which time the explant was evaluated. WTHZ Results: WTBZExplant volume was significantly reduced in all ovariectomy groups, an effect that was more significant in animals for 4, 6, 8 weeks compared with those for only 2 weeks. Histologic examination of the explants demonstrated a proliferation in the control group and an atrophy in the ovariectomy group.WTHZ Conclusion:WTBZ Ovariectomy caused gradual regression of endometrial explant, but it can not produce a complete regression of the endometrial explant.
