NOVEL TETRAHYDROBENZINDOLONE DERIVATIVES

Compounds represented by general formula (I) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and a process for producing the same. Because of having an inhibitory activity on the bonding of progesterone to its receptor, these compounds are usable as remedies and preventives for diseases in which progesterone participates. In particular, these compounds are useful as anticancer agents for mammary cancer and ovarian cancer, remedies for uterus myoma, endometriosis, meningioma and myeloma, abortifacients, oral contraceptives, and remedies and preventives for osteoporosis and menopausual symptoms.; In said formula, R represents alkyl or aralkyl; R represents hydrogen, alkylcarbonyl, cycloalkyl- carbonyl, aromatic acyl, saturated heterocyclic acyl, alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, carbamoyl, alkylcarbamoyl, aromatic carbamoyl, aralkylcarbamoyl, alkylamino-carbonyl, cycloalkylcarbamoyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, heteroaromatic thiocarbonyl, saturated heterocyclic thiocarbonyl or alkylthiocarbamoyl; and R represents hydrogen, hydroxy, alkyloxy, alkylcarbonyloxy, alkylthio or arylthio.
