Abstract

Endometriosis is defined as the status of ectopic proliferation whereout the endometrium tissues physiologi-cally exist. Recently, this disease is increasing, but external endometriosis in the umbilical portion is very rare. We experienced a patient with endometriosis in the umbilical skin, who had no previous history of undergoing has not had any abdominal operation. Presented here is a summary of this case. A 47-year-old woman was seen at a hospital because of a tumor with bleeding and pain in the umbilical portion, which had been noticed 3 years before. A diangosis of endometriosis of the umbilical skin was made and the tumor was completely extirpated including around normal tissue. The resected specimen was elastic firm, well-defined and solid tumor of 20×22×10mm, and the color of the tumor was milky white. Histological examination revealed ductal structure in all layers of true skin, and scattered follicles of endometrium. Therefore, it was diagnosed as external endometrium. The patient is alive, and there have been no signs of recurrence.
