Lived Experiences of the Marginalized Migrant Workers and Their Narratives Over the (New) Normal

With the emergent health and well-being issue, the mobility of the marginalized migrant population and their experiences over the migration affairs in life especially in India and other developing countries have become pertinent once again apart from the health-related prime concern due to the covid 19 pandemic. Despite being a developing and socio-culturally diverse nation, India has a rich history of internal migration from the colonial era. Moreover, migration has become a global trend for livelihood in contemporary life. So in this context the lived experiences and the subjective well-being of the noticeable number of marginalized migrant communities despite the disadvantageous socioeconomic position drew academic attention. Hence, the present study will instigate exploring the lived experiences and well-being of the marginalized migrant workers through a qualitative approach. Rural to urban (inter-state/district) migrant workers in Kolkata such as Bhari (Drinking water supplier), Fuchkawalas (Fuchka vendor), and Bhunjawalas (Dry/light tiffin vendor) who are socioeconomically marginalized were physically interviewed, and the transcription and the field notes along with their narratives were analyzed to explore their lived experiences and their well-being.
