Abstract

Objective To investigate clinical effect by placement of mirena(levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system, LNG-IUS) in the treatment of adenomyosis. Methods Clinical data of 56 adenomyosis patients receiving mirena were retrospectively analyzed. Comparisons were made on influences by mirena on menstrual blood volume, dysmenorrhea visual analogue scale(VAS) score, uterine volume, endometrial thickness, hemoglobin, and adverse reactions. Results After placement of mirena for 3 months, these adenomyosis patients had obviously reduced menstrual blood volume, VAS score, endometrial thickness, and increased hemoglobin level. After placement for 12 months, uterine volume was remarkably decreased. The differences all had statistical significance(P0.05 or P0.01). Conclusion Placement of mirena can effectively relieve dysmenorrheal, reduce menstrual blood volume, and improve anemia. It is a safe and effective treatment method which is worthy of promotion.
