Abstract
Objective:To investigate the expression and clinical significance of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) proteins in adenomyosis. Methods:Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the ER and PR proteins expression levels in eutopic endometrium ,ectopic endometrium,para-adenomyosis tissues and normal muscle tissue specimens of 40 cases with adeno- myosis and 40 cases with nomal endometrium. Results:The positive rate of ER and PR proteins in ectopic endometrium was lower than that in eutopic endometrium(82.5% vs 97.5%,80% vs 95%) but higher than that in nomal endometrium(82.5% vs 57.5%,80% vs 60%) (P0.05 respectively);The positive rate of ER and PR proteins in para-adenomyosis tissues was lower than that in ectopic endometrium (47.5% vs 82.5%,52.5% vs 80%) but higher than that in nomal muscle tissues(47.5% vs 25%,52.5% vs 27.5%) (P0.05 respectively). Conclusions:Adenomyosis is an estrogen-dependent disease and its pathogenesis is possablely concerned with ER and PR, and the recurrence of adenomyosis mainly resultes from the higher expression of ER and PR in rudimental and surrounding focus tissues.
