Abstract

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is frequently difficult to cure or treat, often leading to surgical intervention. After medical and/or conservative surgical treatment(s) have failed, most women with CPP of gynecologic origin will benefit from definitive treatment with hysterectomy. This chapter discusses the role of definitive surgery in the management of CPP due to gynecologic pathology (i.e. endometriosis, leiomyomas, adenomyosis, adhesions, pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic congestion syndrome), a lack of surgical pathology, and posthysterectomy pain.
