Abstract

The object of this study was to review five ovarian pregnancies that occurred during an 8-year period (1991–1998). The prevalence of the disease is higher than expected. Early diagnosis is possible owing to the development of ultrasonography and quantitative radioimmunoassay for β-HCG. Etiologic factors such as pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and intrauterine device usage are considered. The authors present their experience in the management of that rare gynecologic condition treated by operative laparoscopy with the harmonic scalpel.
